Radmila Popović
(1962 – 2024)

Dr Radmila Popovic was one of the founding members of ELTA. She approached her role with great humility, reflecting her deep dedication to the field. She served as the President of ELTA Serbia from 2010 to 2011, which was a source of immense pride for her.

Radmila had a career spanning over thirty years, during which she contributed tirelessly to English language teaching. She worked as a teacher, teacher educator, university lecturer, and consultant. Her journey was marked by a profound commitment to education. She served as an Assistant Professor in ELT Methodology and Applied Linguistics at the University of Belgrade before moving to Washington, DC, in 2011. There, she worked as the Education and Research Specialist for World Learning.

Radmila’s impact extended far beyond her homeland, Serbia, reaching countries such as Algeria, Egypt, El Salvador, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkey, and the USA. She was involved in innovative projects, ranging from teaching English to young learners to curricular reforms in tertiary education. Her unwavering dedication was showcased through her work.

Radmila’s online course, “Teaching Grammar Communicatively”, remains an integral part of the Online Professional English Network (OPEN) program. Her professional and research interests encompassed teacher education, E-learning, teaching methodologies, and second language development.

In remembering Radmila, we honour her humility, passion, and enduring contributions to the field of English language teaching. She remains an inspiration to us all. We will always remember her with deep gratitude for the unwavering professionalism, steadfast commitment, and resilient spirit she embodied. Her absence is felt deeply, and we send our heartfelt sympathies to those who knew and loved her.
