About Terry Lamb:
Terry has an impressive career spanning over 16 years as a German and French teacher in London secondary schools, followed by his role as a university teacher educator. Currently, he is a Professor of Languages and Interdisciplinary Pedagogy at the University of Westminster and serves as the President of FIPLV.
Terry has collaborated with governments in the UK and beyond, as well as with prominent organizations such as the Council of Europe, European Commission, and UNESCO on language strategy and curriculum development. His extensive expertise makes him a highly influential voice in the field.
📢 Plenary Talk: “Why Languages Matter! Language Education for Democratic Culture”
In his plenary, Terry will address the pivotal role of language educators in fostering and sustaining democracy. He will unpack the Council of Europe’s Recommendation on plurilingual and intercultural education for democratic culture, showcasing practical ways educators can:
- Create linguistically inclusive classrooms and schools
- Shift societal attitudes towards language learning and multilingualism
- Utilize free online resources from the European Centre for Modern Languages
