U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, Gordon Duguid, and State Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Nenad Borovcanin, spoke at the opening of the Regional Access Teachers’ Conference ‘Taller in Tolerance’ held today at the Moskva Hotel in Belgrade.
The three-day conference has gathered fifty Access teachers from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia to develop practical English lessons and projects that facilitate cross cultural understanding, promote ethnic and religious tolerance, appreciate diversity and multiculturalism, and foster empathy. Funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by the U.S. Embassy Serbia and the English Language Teachers’ Association (ELTA), the Access program provides English language instruction to 13–15 year-old students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The conference organised by the Regional English Language Office (RELO), the English Language Teachers’ Association (ELTA) and the U.S. Embassy Serbia gives the opportunity to bring together teachers from across the region to work towards the one shared goal: a multi-ethnic and tolerant society.
