ELTA Serbia invites English language teachers from primary and secondary schools across Serbia to join TeachingEnglish in Action: From Resources to Classroom Innovation, a national project supported by the British Council.
This project gives each participating teacher the support to turn a TeachingEnglish resource into a project with students, try it in the classroom and share the experience.
The first nationwide initiative of its kind for English language teachers in Serbia brings together professional development, classroom implementation, collaboration and mentoring. It also gives teachers’ work a chance to reach a wider audience through a national publication and an international conference.
📚 How the project works
Each participant will attend two online professional development sessions led by ELTA Serbia experts in October and November 2026. The sessions will explore TeachingEnglish resources and their use in Serbian classrooms, project-based learning and professional identity.
Each teacher will then choose an idea, theme or approach from TeachingEnglish and design a project that suits the school context and aligns with the TeachingEnglish Theme Calendar. The project can involve creative work, cross-curricular collaboration, digital activities, research, problem-solving, or a community issue.
Over approximately two months of development and implementation, each teacher will help students use English for a meaningful purpose, create original work, and reflect on their learning. ELTA Serbia will provide guidance and mentoring throughout the process.
Each participant must submit the completed project documentation and products by 30 December 2026.
🏆 Recognition for 20 projects
An expert panel appointed by ELTA Serbia will review submissions using clearly defined quality criteria and select the 20 highest-rated projects.
Each selected author will be invited to a professional development event from 29 to 31 January 2027. The venue will be announced soon.
Over three days, each teacher will present the project and student work, take part in workshops, receive feedback and exchange ideas with colleagues from across Serbia.
ELTA Serbia will cover accommodation, meals and transportation to and from the venue for each selected participant.
📖 A place in the national handbook
Selected projects will become part of TeachingEnglish in Action: A Handbook of Innovative Classroom Projects in Serbia, a new ELTA Serbia digital publication.
The handbook will include classroom activities, adapted resources, project products and teacher reflections, alongside practical suggestions for implementation. An idea developed in one classroom could become a useful starting point in another.
🌍 An opportunity to reach an international audience
The best projects will also receive funding to cover participation fees for the ELTA Serbia International Conference in Belgrade in April 2027.
The conference will offer an opportunity for a teacher to present classroom practice, exchange ideas with international colleagues and develop professional connections beyond the project.
👩🏫 Who can apply
An applicant must reside in the Republic of Serbia and be employed as an English language teacher in an accredited state or private primary or secondary school in Serbia.
Each applicant must commit to all project phases, including both online sessions, project design and classroom implementation, documentation and reflection, and submission by 30 December 2026.
ELTA Serbia particularly welcomes applications from teachers working in a smaller town, a rural community, or a school with fewer opportunities for professional development. We also encourage teachers working with diverse classes or students of different abilities, as well as those interested in collaborative approaches that give students an active role in learning.
Previous project design experience is not required, and applicants do not need a fully developed idea before applying. The project can use simple materials and familiar technology. What matters is thoughtful use of TeachingEnglish resources and meaningful learning for students.
Curiosity, creativity and commitment give a teacher plenty to work with. ELTA Serbia will help with the next steps.
