Mediation in ELT for a Connected World: Reflections from the 7th TESOL Türkiye International ELT Conference by Jasmina Milićević, Primary School “Olga Milošević”, Serbia, brings attention to one of the key ideas shaping contemporary English language teaching.
The article explores how mediation moves language learning beyond accuracy alone. It encourages learners to interpret, collaborate, negotiate meaning, and build understanding together, which sounds rather close to what good communication was meant to be in the first place.
These ideas were at the centre of the 7th TESOL Türkiye International ELT Conference, held in the beautiful coastal city of Bodrum under the inspiring theme “Mediation in ELT for a Connected World”.
The programme included plenary talks, research presentations, interactive workshops, and discussions that connected theory with practical classroom use. What stood out most was not only the academic quality of the sessions, but also the warm and collegial atmosphere.
Coffee breaks and informal conversations became valuable moments for exchanging classroom experiences, discussing international projects, and creating new professional connections with colleagues from different countries. As teachers know very well, some of the best ideas arrive between two sessions and one very welcome cup of coffee.
