In the article “Warmth, Diversity, and Wonder: My Journey through Multicultural Teaching”, based on her 2026 TESOL Spain Annual Convention talk in Seville, Tijana Gajić reflects on how teaching international students in Serbia challenged earlier assumptions about silence, group work, and classroom interaction.
Her experience showed that diversity by itself does not guarantee intercultural learning. What made the difference was thoughtful task design, including activities such as “My Country and the Host Country”, which encouraged dialogue, teamwork, empathy, and meaningful language use.
